Copyright Free Image Websites

If you’re a blogger, aspiring photographer, graphic designer, or entrepreneur, you know how challenging it is to find copyright-free stock images, especially when it comes to copyright-free image websites. Here we’ve compiled the best sites to download 100% free stock photos. These stock photos are even suitable for commercial use. You may or may not find an image from a single website. The internet is filled with eye-catching, beautiful images, but most of them cannot use without permission from the owner. Copyright laws are there to encourage their creation. However, if you attempt to edit, publish, or distribute without permission or a legitimate license, you are committing a legal offense.

What Is Copyright?

Copyright is something automatically appends to the creator as soon as the original work is complete. This means the creator has the exclusive right to reproduce, publish, or sell the creation with some exceptions. The work could be a photograph, literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Things like commercial logos, slogans, words may have protected under trademark law. I’ve mentioned these things here because some sites have free images with a company brand name, logos, slogans don’t cover the trademark law. To use these images, you need to have a license for them as well.

Creative Commons license

Creative Commons licenses are one of the types where allow free distribution of copyrighted work. There are several types of licenses under common creative license with different levels of restrictions. You can read the in-detail article from Wikipedia. CC0 (Zero / public domain) is the license type widely used among bloggers since it doesn’t have any restrictions.

NOTE: Even though CC0 License doesn’t have any restriction doesn’t mean you can do anything. Each limitation may vary depending on the source. Generally, when it comes to images, they don’t allow you to sell the pictures somewhere else. Another thing is that if you are unable to find a license or creator of an image, just don’t use it. You must read the notices or license agreement before you proceed to use any image.

Copyright Free Stock Images

Thankfully there are many websites these days, which provide high-quality stock images under CC0 license. This means you are free to copy, modify, distribute, or use it for commercial purposes.

Most of the websites mentioned below provide free images without copyright issues, but still, there might be some restrictions. As we mentioned before even though the pictures are free, some brand logos and models embedded with the image will still require a license. Be careful with these. We will try to link all the license links here. Even though it isn’t a must requirement to give credits, we recommend doing so whenever it’s possible. Its the way we can appreciate their hard work.
